The VW and Audi Connection

The Volkswagen Group and Audi have been around for decades. Audi is one of Volkswagen Group’s key acquisitions. Audi’s roots are in a company found by August Horch in 1899. Ten years after he founded the initial company, he started a new company called Audiwerke AG, Zwickau.

In 1932 Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer merged their companies to form Auto Union AG. Eventually, the company was acquired by Daimler-Benz, then its last merger was with Volkswagen.

Across VW and Audi, many of the vehicles are based on the same concept, including the chassis. They also use a lot of the same technology, so most of the special tools and diagnostic scanners work on both vehicles.
